Note: Kern Scheduling is not a mystery shopping company, but rather a scheduler for several different MS companies. For this reason, they do not have an overall rating.
Kern does scheduling for several other companies. For some companies (like Service Research), they do all the scheduling; for others, they schedule shops that shoppers didn't take. It's a good way to get to know various MS companies that are active in your area.
Disadvantages:
Kern typically doesn't offer the "big money" shops; they're often scheduling ones that other companies can't schedule themselves -- often because they pay low rates and don't wish to offer bonuses.
Unfortunately, while Kern will in some cases offer you shop guidelines, interact with you, and pay you, there are cases where their documentation has conflicted with their client's, and shoppers denied payment for shops done "incorrectly". As such, I prefer to avoid this scheduling company and sign up for the companies directly.

I've been registered with this company for a little over a year. I've only accepted three assignments, only due to the fact that they haven't been very interesting or worth my time.
My last assignment was this past weekend where I shopped at the nearest Six Flags. I received a free parking pass, a free admission ticket, was reimbursed for all of my food, and I was given a good bonus. My husband and daughter came along so we made it a great family day.
Lorri Kern is the most abusive and rudest person there ever was. She will lie, manipulate and do whatever she can to come out on top, she's often proven wrong even when she's 'right' in her eyes only. I have had nothing but trouble with her even before Kern Scheduling came about and there are so many many people afraid of her because she will blackball you if you cross her.
Kern will steal your time! I signed up with the company and have performed at least a dozen or more shops, all of which I'm happy to say I've been reimbursed/paid for.
But I must agree Kern is a less than savory company to work with or for. There is almost never any pay for the shops, usually just reimbursement. And on top of that, they make the reports insanely time-consuming. Most of my shops have started out with just 2 or 3 forms or spreadsheets to complete, but after Kern and their client find that their rating measures conflict, they usually return to the shopper and demand more reports. I did a simple shop at a gas station for which the reports changed 4 times before Kern was able to satisfy their client. And reimbursement often does not come for 2 months after completion of the reports.
The schedulers are often rude (as mentioned by the last reviewers) and will pressure you to save their rumps when they can't satisfy their clients. Working with Kern could turn out to be a big waste of time and money, be careful.
